This Christmas TG4 marks almost 30 years since the landmark Geantraí series began the much-loved traditional Irish music series that has brought some of the finest traditional music song and sessions to Irish viewing audiences down through the decades. Join host Pauline Scanlon for a festive feast of Irish talent on Christmas Night 2025 with performances and collaborations from the cream of Irish traditional and folk music. To celebrate this milestone year and Season 20 of this much-loved series the Geantraí Christmas Special 2025 was filmed in the stunning surroundings of Mount Falcon, County Mayo bringing together an exceptional lineup of artists.
The lineup includes legendary performers such as Paul Brady performing two of his most celebrated folk songs - Arthur McBride and The Lakes of Ponchartrain, the powerhouse that is Brendán O’Beaglaoich, the much-loved Tommy Fleming, and the brightest new voices in traditional and folk music. Gearóid McCarthy, Alannah Thornburgh. Aileen Bourke, The Brennan Sisters with Fergal Ó Murchú, Ciaran Mulderring and Fergal Scahill all deliver outstanding performances to fill a programme with seasonal joy and reflection. The Mayo connection continues with Breda Smyth and her son Donal Higgins with Jim Higgins accompanied by Pat Doucey playing a beautiful set of tunes.
And with the full sound of the youth Orchestra The Mayo Ensemble is led by renowned multi-instrumentalist Stephen Doherty. The result is an intimate and heartwarming evening of music, song and story, filled with festive atmosphere and the unmistakable rhythm of Irish tradition.
