Mount Falcon Hotel

August started off well but as the month progressed fish became harder to catch on the Moy. While Connacht did have rain the Moy catchment did not enjoy as much water as the rivers further west. Floods on the Owenduff and Erriff brought the fish back onto the take

MOUNT FALCON FISHERY -RIVER MOY - ROD CATCH.

AUGUST - 221. Year to date 547  Salmon and Grilse.

The Whitwell Party fishing the beginning of the month had 32 fish, including a first salmon for 13 yr old Toby Broadhurst. They also enjoyed success on The Owenduff with both sea-trout and salmon.  The Jordan family had 21 salmon for their stay including 9 fish on the fly. Rob Campbell from South Africa had 4 fish on the fly on the upper Beat. Fernando Varvier (Spain) fishing with guide Robert Gillespie had 11 fish in 3 days. Nick Fisher (Channel 4 Screaming Reels), enjoyed a family break at Mount Falcon and both he and his two eldest sons all had salmon from the Mount Falcon water (first salmon for Rex and Rory). Nick also took a fish of approximately 7lb on the Rock House Beat of the Owenduff while fishing with Fishery Manager Stuart. Regular visitors The Uriate Pary from Spain worked hard to take 19 fish for their visit. The last few days saw the salmon becoming exceedingly difficult to catch, the most successful being method was fishing small shrimp flies (orange and gold/faughan/foxford) on fast sinking leaders. Prospects -come September the fish generally come back on the take, some fresh water in the system would also help bring any fish in the estuary into the river and would help ‘liven up’ the residents.
