Salmon Fishing

Mount Falcon has been inextricably linked with the River Moy and salmon fishing in Mayo throughout its history.The two mile double bank Mount Falcon Fishery is a mixed method salmon fishery catering for all fishing methods: fly, bait and spinning. The fishing is reserved exclusively for hotel guests.

The Fishery is located only 2 miles upstream from the tidal waters of the Moy. This ensures a constant flow of fresh salmon and grilse throughout the season (1st February - 31st September). In a 'normal' year the best months for spring salmon are April-June, with the bulk of the grilse and summer fish being caught from June-September).

Approximately 85% of the fish that run the Moy system (estimated at between 50,000 to 60,000) must pass through the Mount Falcon waters. 2007 the first year without nets saw an increase in both the numbers of fish caught and the average size. A total of 980 salmon/grilse were taken on the Mount Falcon waters in the 2007 season. In 2008 401 salmon were taken, the decrease from the previous year being largely the result of reduced angling pressure (no day tickets sold), and the high water which meant that the river was unfishable for prolonged periods in August/September. However the high water levels will have meant an uninterrupted run to the lake and spawning grounds for the fish, and this should auger well for future seasons.

Trout Fishing
The 3 acre spring fed lake provides residents only fly fishing for full tailed hard fighting rainbows (2lb-6lb).

We will be offering free salmon fishing for residents up until the 1st June in the 2009 season. Booking is essential please contact the fishery manager for more information.
